As one of the Pacific Northwest’s first call bassists, Timmer Blakely is a busy man. Since 1991, Timmer has been laying down the bottom end for numerous national and regional blues, country, rock, and Americana artists. Timmer’s most recent work includes touring with renowned guitarist Paul Gilbert.
In addition to live performance, Timmer teaches bass, guitar and music theory in private lessons. In 2014, Timmer established Thunder Studios, offering affordable music clinics on all music related topics to Portland’s thriving music community. 2014 also marked the establishment of the Thunder Brothers Rhythm Squad (TBRS), comprised of Timmer on bass and J.M. Thunder on drums. TBRS was designed to provide comprehensive Rhythm Section support to artists traveling through the Pacific Northwest.
In 2015, the TBRS evolved into The Thunder Brothers band featuring Michael Quinby, Doug Rowell, Edwin Coleman III and Timmer. Since then, they have dominated clubs and festivals throughout the Pacific Northwest and the regional blues awards.
In 2017, the Cascade Blues Association honored Timmer with their prestigious Muddy Award for Bass Guitarist of the year, making Timmer one of the PNW’s favorite bassists. A deep disciplined pocket, a massive range of dynamics and startling sense of telepathy that Timmer brings to the stage that can be felt by both the audience and his fellow performers.
